Recessed vs Surface Curtain Track | IKSUN

Two ways to hang a motorized curtain: build the track into the ceiling pocket so it vanishes when the curtain is open, or clip a surface track below the ceiling where the structure is already finished. Both use the same IKSUN belt-drive bodies, so the choice is about the ceiling, not the curtain.

How to decide

What to weigh

The pocket is the constraint

A recessed track only works if the architect draws the pocket first. IKSUN makes the body in two ceiling-pocket sections, 41.97 x 21.7 mm and 40 x 26 mm, so it can match a pocket already on the drawing rather than re-cutting the ceiling.

Same drive either way

Both options run on the IKSUN belt-drive range - 16 universal profiles, plus Jialisi and Somfy configured bodies - so motor availability and lead time do not change with the mounting method.

Lighting can share the pocket

Where a recessed track is specified, the AT81 integrated light-and-motor extrusion can sit in the same ceiling detail, removing the need for a separate lighting channel.

Key facts

The figures on this page, stated plainly

  • The IKSUN recessed built-in track is produced in two ceiling-pocket sections, 41.97 x 21.7 mm and 40 x 26 mm, so it can match a pocket already drawn by a project architect.

  • The recessed built-in track body is made in Somfy and Jialisi motor interfaces, so a distributor can keep one motor inventory across projects.

  • Of the 38 track bodies, 14 are produced for Jialisi drives, 8 for Somfy drives, and 16 are universal belt-drive profiles quoted without a motor.

Questions on this guide

Answers buyers ask

Do I need a false ceiling for a recessed curtain track?

Only if the building does not already have a ceiling pocket. The IKSUN recessed body is made for pockets of 41.97 x 21.7 mm or 40 x 26 mm; if neither exists, a surface track is the faster route because it clips to the finished ceiling.

Can I still reach the motor with a recessed track?

Yes. The recessed built-in body is produced in Somfy and Jialisi motor interfaces on the same extrusion, so the motor is serviced from the ceiling pocket rather than from below the room.
